Costa Daurada · 50 km of golden coast
Best Beaches in Tarragona
From Playa del Miracle next to the Roman Amphitheatre — unique in the world — to the unspoilt Cala Fonda with turquoise waters. The 8 best beaches on the Costa Daurada.
50 km of coastline and water at 26–27°C in July and August. The Costa Daurada has one of Europe's best beach climates.
We call it the Costa Daurada — golden coast — because the sand has that warm colour that shines under the Mediterranean sun. 2,700 hours of sunshine a year, the warmest water in the northern Mediterranean and a beach with a Roman amphitheatre as its backdrop. That's not normal. There's nowhere else like it.
🌡️ Sea temperature by month
The Mediterranean warms slowly and retains heat until October. The real swimming season runs from May to October.
Approximate average temperatures. Lifeguard season is June–September.

Playa del Miracle
Unique in the world: next to the Roman Amphitheatre
Spain's most unique beach and possibly the Mediterranean's: swimming at the foot of the 2nd-century Roman Amphitheatre, with the Miracle Park as a backdrop. A 2,000-year-old monument facing the sea while you're in the water. There is no other beach like this anywhere in the world.
Arrive before 9am: the amphitheatre is still empty and the beach is almost all yours. The dawn light on the amphitheatre is spectacular.

Playa de l'Arrabassada
The most popular · Families · Calm waters
The favourite among Tarragona locals and the city's best-equipped beach. 800 metres of fine golden sand, calm clear Blue Flag waters. The seafront promenade has terrace bars and restaurants. The atmosphere is lively but never chaotic. The perfect choice if you're looking for guaranteed quality.
The beach bar at the northern end does the best mojitos with sea views. Arrive at 8am to secure your spot in August.

Cala Fonda (Waikiki)
Tarragona's gem · Turquoise waters · On foot only
Tarragona's most beautiful cove and one of the most stunning in the Mediterranean. Nestled among pine-covered cliffs of the Bosc de la Marquesa forest, with extraordinarily turquoise waters. Only accessible on foot (20-min trail) or by sea kayak. Part of the beach is naturist. No facilities: bring everything you need.
Bring water, food and sunscreen. Arrive at 9am before it fills up. The trail is easy for everyone.

Playa de la Mora
Pines to the water's edge · Peaceful family atmosphere
One of the northern Costa Daurada's most beautiful beaches: Mediterranean pine trees stretching almost to the shoreline, golden sand and exceptional-quality Blue Flag water. Peaceful and family-friendly, far from the crowds. The gentle winds make it ideal for beginner sailing and windsurfing.
The restaurant opposite the beach serves an excellent seafood fideuà. Perfect for lunch with sea views.

Playa de la Pineda (Vila-seca)
2.5 km of sand · Next to PortAventura
2.5 km of fine golden sand with shallow Blue Flag waters. The seafront promenade features a modern sculpture trail. Fully equipped with all amenities. A 5-minute walk from the PortAventura World entrance: the perfect option for a theme park + beach day.
Park once and use beach + park on the same day. The train from Tarragona is the best option.

Playa Larga
Constant wind · Windsurfing · Kitesurfing
Tarragona's longest beach: 3 km of sand among pine trees. Constant southerly winds make it a paradise for water sports. The windsurf school offers beginner lessons. Less crowded than Arrabassada, it's the favourite among sports enthusiasts.
South winds are stronger in the afternoon (3–6pm). The school is open every day in summer.

Playa de Altafulla
Medieval village backdrop · 16th-century tower
12 km from Tarragona, the beach at the charming medieval village of Altafulla combines golden sand with the silhouette of the old town and its 16th-century defensive tower. The village, with cobbled medieval streets and several Michelin-starred restaurants, is as appealing as the beach itself.
Beach in the morning, visit the medieval village at midday and terrace dinner with sea views.

Playa de Coma-ruga
2.3 km · Very calm waters for children
25 km north, one of the Costa Daurada's largest and best-equipped beaches. 2.3 km of very calm and shallow water, ideal for young children and non-swimmers. A very lively seafront promenade with restaurants and terraces. Near El Vendrell, birthplace of Pau Casals.
Combine it with a visit to Pau Casals' birthplace in El Vendrell. The seafront promenade is ideal for cycling.
