Gimnàstic de Tarragona — known as the Nàstic — was founded on 9 November 1886 and is Spain's oldest active football club. 138 years of uninterrupted history. They played in Primera División on several occasions, most recently in 2006–2008. Their colours are white and garnet. The Nou Estadi (14,000 fans) is a temple of Tarragona football.

Rock Climbing in Siurana
Spain's most famous climbing sector · 45 km away
45 km from Tarragona, Siurana is one of the world's most famous sport climbing destinations. The red sandstone walls of the Montsant, with routes of 10 to 30 metres, attract climbers from around the world. Over 500 routes for all levels (4 to 9a). The atmosphere of the cliff-top village overlooking the reservoir completes the experience.

The best seasons are spring and autumn. Summer is too hot for climbing. North-facing sectors are viable in July and August.

Tarragona has spectacular cycling routes for all levels: the coastal Camí de Ronda (shoreline between coves), the climb to the Priorat on quiet mountain roads, and MTB (mountain bike) routes through the Montsant and Serra de Llaberia. Bike hire in the city centre and at coastal route access points.

Marathon, historic 10K and running beside the Amphitheatre
Tarragona has a strong running culture. The Passeig de les Palmeres (1 km beside the Amphitheatre), Parc de la Ciutat and the coastal route are favourite circuits. The Tarragona Marathon (November) passes through the UNESCO monuments and beaches. The 10K Por las Murallas (October) is the most emblematic urban race.
